John is the CEO and Co-Owner of Sunbelt’s parent company, Merrymeeting, Inc. (MMI).

After obtaining his MBA, John began his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the international accounting and consulting firm, and subsequently joined Progressive Corporation, a large U.S. based insurance company. John was a Division President at Progressive and subsequently became the CEO of a New York based private equity investment company. In 2001, he founded MMI as a platform investment company and MMI has subsequently acquired 7 additional companies. John is also a founder and co-owner of Raintree Capital Partners, an investment banking firm.

John’s professional credentials include being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Business Intermediary (CBI), Series 7-General Securities Representative, Series 24-General Securities Principal, Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He is a frequent speaker on various business topics and most recently was the subject matter expert for the writing of “Selling Your Business For Dummies”, a Wiley Press publication.

Jeff Harcourt

Jeff is a graduate of Miami University. He has been the Chief Operating Officer of Merrymeeting since its inception in 2001. Prior to joining MMI, Jeff was the Chief Financial Officer for several businesses. He was also previously a Manager with KPMG, the international accounting and consulting firm.

Jeff is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Business Intermediary (CBI), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a licensed insurance broker. He is also a certified instructor for the International Business Brokers Association.

Matt Ottaway

Matt obtained his BA from Georgetown University and subsequently completed his MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He started his career at Fifth Third Bank, a Super Regional, Midwest Bank. Matt was a commercial loan officer at Fifth Third specializing in working with Middle Market companies with annual sales of $10 to $100 million. Additionally, Matt worked with international companies with operations in Northeast Ohio.

Since joining MMI in February, 2006, Matt has been responsible for the day-to-day operations of Sunbelt. He is a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) and is a certified instructor for the International Business Brokerage Association.

Matt currently serves as the treasurer for the Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa and as a board member for The Achievement Centers For Children.

Laurel Park
Chief Financial Officer

Laurel has been the CFO of Merrymeeting, Inc, Sunbelt’s parent company, since its inception in 2001. She is responsible for all of MMI’s financial operations and our customer service center in Phoenix. She was previously the controller of a publicly traded company. Laurel is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a graduate of Arizona State University.
